McCall & Associates is very excited to be involved in this year’s Brooks County Skillet Festival, a food and arts event put on by Destination Brooks. We’re proud of our Brooks County ties (one of the principals calls Brooks County home and a few staff members are Brooks County natives). We are working now the renovation of the beautiful courtroom upstairs in the historic Brooks County Courthouse, the site of this annual fall event. We’re sponsoring this year’s event which will be held on October 20 on the Courthouse Square in downtown Quitman, Georgia.
The food vendors alone are reason enough to come: Phickles Pickles out of Athens, Sweetgrass Dairy of Thomasville, Whisk of Valdosta, Georgia Olive Farms of Lakeland, and Thompson Farms Smokehouse of Dixie, not to mention homemade pork rinds, gourmet sweet tea, and some of the best barbeque in south Georgia and north Florida. As local business owners, we like getting to know the people and the story behind the products. That is as important to us as how it tastes.
There will be lots of handmade wares on sale, too, of all way shapes and forms. I’ve been told that, though last year’s event was great, this year will be EVEN BETTER! We’re looking forward to getting to participate in the Skillet Toss this year.
Yes, you read that correctly. Come on out and see if you can set the event record for tossing a cast iron skillet! Check out Georgia Governor Nathan Deal throw out the inaugural skillet last year!
In the evening, we’ll be on site to enjoy the Skillet Stomp, a free concert featuring The Kinchafoonee Cowboys. Seeing Kinchafoonee is always a GREAT time. After all, the band holds records at the Georgia Theatre in Athens for most shows played, most sold-out shows, and according to them ” thanks to the greatest fans in the world, highest bar sales”.
It’s really an event worth supporting!
